Google Glass’ New DVF High-Fashion Frames Now Available

If you’ve been holding off on joining the Google Glass Explorer program because you feel the basic Glass frames lack a certain amount of flair, today could be the day you take the ($1,800) plunge.

Announced earlier this month, the new high fashion Glass frames, from famed designer Diane von Furstenberg, are now available to purchase on both Google’s Glass site and NET-A-PORTER.com.

“We are thrilled to offer Glass to our tech-savvy customers who are true leaders and innovators in style and lifestyle,” says Natalie Massenet, Founder and Chairman of The NET-A-PORTER Group. “We pride ourselves on leading the way in delivering the best in service, product, and technology and we are excited to bring Google Glass to our US customers, ahead of the Glass consumer release.”

Called the ‘Made for Glass’ collection, the DVF frames will come in an $1,800 bundle and include the Glass, frames and a shade, a mono earbud, and a case. There are five colors to choose from – black, green, plum, brown and white.

Xolo has launched the Xolo Win Windows 8.1 tablet exclusively on Flipkart. It was unveiled at CES 2014 earlier this year and packs a 10.1-inch (1366 x768 pixels)  display and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core AMD Temash A4-1200 processor with AMD Radeon HD 8180G GPU. It has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 1-megapixel front-facing camera.

Along with the Fonepad 7 refresh, Aus also unveiled the Fonepad 8 (FE380CG) at the Computex 2014 in Taipei. This has almost similar specifications as the new Fonepad 7 (FE375CG) , but this has a 8-inch (1280 x 800) HD IPS display, compared to the 7-inch HD display on the Fonepad 7. It also comes with Dual SIM support and a 1.83 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 processor with PowerVR G6430 GPU.

Asus Fonepad 8 and new Fonepad 7 with quad-core Intel Atom processors announced

Asus has announced Fonepad 8 (FE380CG) and a new version of the Fonepad 7 (FE375CG) at the Computex 2014. The Fonepad 8 has a 8-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display with 5.06mm narrow bezel bezel and a screen-to-body ratio of 72.2%. The Fonepad 7 has a 7-inch (1280 x 800) display. Both these tablets are powered by a 1.8 GHz quad-core 64-bit Intel Atom Z3560 processor with PowerVR Series 6 GPU and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) with Zen UI . These tablets also have a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

These have Dual front speakers with SonicMaster technology and Dual SIM support with voice calling capabilities.

ASUS unveils Transformer Book V, a 5-in-1 hybrid with Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4

ASUS has taken wraps off another of its hybrid devices at the ongoing Computex in Taipei. The company has announced the Transformer Book V, a 5 in 1 device which can be used as a phone, tablet and laptop running on Android and Windows.

The modular device boasts of a 12.5 inch HD IPS detachable screen and a 5-inch smartphone that docks into the tablet. Asus Transformer Book V is aimed at being more flexible for users to switch between work and entertainment in one device. Powered by an Intel Moorefield chip in the phone, the device has an Intel Core CPU in the dock section. It runs both Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 KitKat and it can be docked with a keyboard on both the modes to provide a full laptop experience.

Transformer Book V can switch to Android as soon as you insert the Android phone into the dock situated at the back of the laptop.The Android phone on the Book V features 2GB of RAM and 64GB of its own native storage. The phone carries back and front-facing cameras of 8MP and 2MP respectively. Once detached from the keyboard, the device can be used as a tablet as it also features a touchpad. A dedicated hardware button means it can instantly switch between the two operating systems.

Hence, it looks like the device can be transformed to Windows tablet, a Windows laptop, an Android phone, an Android tablet and an Android laptop. No details about pricing and availability of the Transformer Book V has been revealed by ASUS.

Dell announces new Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablets with Android 4.4 KitKat

Dell has unveiled two Android tablets that are an upgrade to its Venue series at the Computex. Dubbed as Venue 7 and Venue 8, the tablets run on latest Android KitKat 4.4 and starts at US$159 and US$199 respectively.

Broadcom has announced BCM59350, a high performance wireless charging power management unit (PMU) with support for all three leading standards organizations including the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). This has a unique Broadcom design that enables multiple devices with different power requirements such as tablets, smartphones or a smartwatch charge at the same time, without the trouble of accurate positioning or alignment.

The Broadcom BCM59350 wireless charging smartphone power management unit is now in sampling stage with select OEMs. It is not clear when we can expect smartphones with this new wireless charging chipset.

SanDisk Corporation introduced the 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I (Class 10), the world’s largest capacity microSD card for smartphones and tablets at the MWC 2014 earlier this year. It has introduced the 128GB microSDXC in India. The first 128MB micro SD card was launched in 2004, it took just 10 years to bring memory capacity of 128GB.
